Pastor’s Bible Study

Pastor Bill will be leading an Introduction to the Old Testament class on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 in Mission Hall B.  This is a 10 week course that introduces participants to key themes and issues in the Old Testament.  The course emphasizes the importance of reading Old Testament texts in their cultural and literary contexts with a view to relating them to Jesus' ministry.  The course includes DVD presentations by Lutheran seminary professors, as well as lively discussion.  Come and join us for a closer look at the Old Testament as we discuss how these texts continue to shape our faith and practice in today’s world.

    Crossways

Crossways is a world wide interdenominational Bible study that takes people all of the way through the Bible.  It concentrates on God’s continued intervention and rescue of his people.  In 2012 we will be studying the New Testament. We will resume meeting April 11th at 6:30 pm. The cost of the materials is $10.  If you have any questions, or if you want to sign up, please contact Leah Emerson.

    Library

The Mission Lutheran Church Library exists to provide individuals with books and resource materials which uphold biblical principles and values and encourage, edify, equip and strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ. The Library is located off the entrance to the Sanctuary, and is open during church hours and Sunday services. The Library is a member of the National Church Library Association, which provides us with valuable information about the operation of a church library. The NCLA has a quarterly newsletter with book recommendations from librarians who are members, which we use to help us in purchasing our books. We staff two book carts on the patio after services (in good weather) to highlight current books for children, youth and adults.  For more information regarding the library, please contact Debbie Schmidt.

    Book Discussion Group

The Book Discussion Group is an important part of the library ministry. We enjoy books of different styles and subject matter. The book we are currently reading is posted in the entrance to the Sanctuary following services, and is announced in the newsletter and the worship bulletins. By being part of a book discussion group, we are exposed to new ideas, have a renewed awareness of literature, and stretch ourselves in our reading selections. We build relationships and enjoy the thoughts and experiences of others as we discuss books from our various perspectives. We meet the third Saturday of the month in the Library off the Sanctuary Library. Come on in and join us! For more information contact Karen Strauch.

    Alpha Marriage Course

A new Alpha course on marriage is currently scheduled for Sunday evenings in the Fall of 2012. The course is designed to bring couples together for dessert, and to watch a video on issues that arise in a marriage. Couples will have private discussions of how these topics relate to their marriage. The goal of the course is to strengthen and improve marriages by building on communication skills. The course is appropriate for all couples regardless of what they believe, how old they are, or whether their relationship is strong or struggling. Childcare will be provided. Cost for course materials is $50 per couple. View additional course materials online here.
